How long have you been in business?
Rappahannock United Way was formed as a voluntary organization to raise and distribute charitable contributions. An estimated 1,000 people from many segments of the Rappahannock area volunteered through the United Way to improve the social and economic well-being of residents in Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford counties and the city of Fredericksburg.
Incorporated in the state of Virginia, Rappahannock United Way is a not-for-profit, 501(c) (3), charitable organization. Its origins date from 1939 when it was formed as the Fredericksburg Community Fund. C. O'Conner Goolrick served as the first president. Other officers were John L. Pratt, Vice President and Cecil L. Reid, Treasurer. Member agencies were Salvation Army, Mary Washington Hospital Charity Fund, Nursery School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Children's Home Society. The budget that year was $15,000.
In 1962, under the presidency of Lemual Houston the organization changed its name to United Givers Fund of Fredericksburg, Stafford, and Spotsylvania. The budget that year was $52,909. With the United Way name becoming prominent nationally, its name was changed to Rappahannock United Way in 1977. William H. Ledbetter, Jr. was president that year. The budget was $170,000, but $180,433 was actually raised

Directions to our Office: From I-95, take exit 130A. Follow Route 3 East 3 miles until exiting right on US-17/VA-2. Continue forward for 2 miles and turn right at Shannon Park Drive. Then take your immediate left into the WaWa Gas Station and continue straight. The United Way office will be directly ahead.

Janel Donohue is our current President. She reports to a governing Board of Directors.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
