How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Chris Caldwell, President and CEO of Caldwell Consultants, LLC. Chris Caldwell founded Caldwell Consultants, LLC in 1999 after seeing the need for small businesses to acquire IT professional services but did not want to hire an IT professional full time. His first experience in IT is when he assisted in the building of a Personal Computer (PC) based on a 8080 CPU in 1975. His first PC was a TRS-80 Model I where he learned BASIC, Fortran, Cobalt and Assembly Language. When IBM came out with their PC Chris Caldwell purchased one and learned MS-DOS and started setting up the IBM-PC workstations and servicing them. This is where Chris Caldwell became interested in networking the workstations together running Bulletin Board System (BBS) Software. BBS was the predecessor to America Online.
Chris Caldwell received his Electronics Engineering certificate and went to work for the Federal Government designing and maintaining the electronic security system for the National Gallery of Art. Chris Caldwell designed the National Gallery of Art data network using a Fiber Optic backbone in 1986. Chris Caldwell also assisted in the design of the computerized environmental control system for the National Gallery of Art. His last position in the Federal Government was Network Administrator for Smithsonian Institution's Office of Physical Plants (OPP). Chris Caldwell was responsible for all Servers and Networking for the Smithsonian Institution.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Caldwell Consultants supports small businesses, remote offices and home offices. Caldwell Consultants supports network operating systems from vendors such as Microsoft and Novell, as well as general office applications such as
Microsoft Office, etc.
We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for both hardware and software problems. Our goal is to remove your computer problems by handling all of the computer issues from upgrades to day-to-day operational support for you. Caldwell Consultants is able to recommend and perform hardware and software installation and upgrades. We also look at contingency planning for such items as backup procedures, disaster recovery, power problems, and security issues.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We currently have one location in Dumfries, VA but do have plans to expand as required.
